📌 What is Gion Matsuri
Gion Matsuri is the festival of Yasaka Shrine, with over a thousand years of history. Beginning with the “Kippu-iri” on July 1st, rituals and events continue for about a month. The Yamaboko Junko parade is held twice, as the Saki Matsuri (former parade) and the Ato Matsuri (latter parade), each featuring floats of distinct character.

The highlights of Gion Matsuri are the “Yoiyama” eves before the parade and the “Yamaboko Junko” parade itself.
